Smart Weighing at Jalalabad Mine

In previous years, the weighing and dispatch unit at Jalalabad Mine, Iranian Zarand Steel, used various software systems. Because these systems relied on outdated processes, they had problems and shortcomings and could not meet the unit’s newer requirements. Among the problems with the old systems were traffic congestion caused by staff having to enter shipment details manually, as well as wasted staff time and effort. In addition, because the workflows were offline, there were no real-time, live statistics. These systems also lacked safety and deterrent mechanisms, and offered no way to control trucks’ rated capacity, expiration dates, or transport duration.

In recent years, ZISCO has had a pressing need to provide the finance and warehousing departments, as well as managers, with access to this information so they could make timely, data-driven decisions and take the necessary action when potential issues arose. Therefore, after preparing the required infrastructure, ZISCO partnered with Control Adad to automate the weighing and dispatch unit.

After visiting the dispatch and distribution unit at Jalalabad Mine and the factory’s ICT unit, Control Adad specialists held several meetings with the mine management and factory ICT team. They identified the requirements and, taking the available facilities and infrastructure into account, designed and implemented their smart weighing system around four main principles:
● Real-time integration of information from weighing stations
● Maximizing the operational availability of weighing stations
● A simple, user-friendly system
● High system extensibility to support new capabilities

Once the system was deployed in the mine’s weighing unit, the approximate weighing time was reduced to a minimum, helping control traffic at both the origin and destination. Synchronizing the weighing stations also prevented the weighbridge screens from becoming static or limited to a single user. The statistics below clearly demonstrate these results.
